Goreng awakes during a concrete cell marked with the amount 48. His roommate, Trimagasi, explains that they’re during a tower-style facility during which food is delivered via a platform that travels from the highest , stopping for a hard and fast period on each floor. Those on lower levels are ready to eat only what those at the highest leave them, and that they cannot hoard food (the cell is heated or cooled to fatal levels if food is kept). monthly , people are randomly reassigned to a replacement level.
